Faye possesses such a rare balance of excellence on all critical fronts, and I don't use those words loosely!! Her track is deliberate and methodical. Her desire to recover downed game is exemplary; she becomes obsessed and works with full conviction after the shot in both terrestrial and aquatic environments. Her default is to search with power, speed, vigor, and intensity before the shot; she hunts with great industry and passion! Hunting her in open landscapes of the American West brings with it the nostalgia and memories of hunting with her grandmother, Cedar vom Brandherd; if a covey exists in the pasture, stubble field, canyon, coulee, or sage flat, she has the brains, the range, and the nose to find it and point it for the gun with a high degree of certainty. As she encounters air scent and/or ground scent, she shifts down into low gear and begins stalking like a cat, using great caution as to not spook or flush the game, pointing and relocating as many times as necessary to pin the game. She wants the game pointed; she knows we are two bodies and one spirit with the same aim - a heavy game bag!
Her hunting ability carries remarkable genetic continuity. She displays many of the same mannerisms and traits seen in her late grandfather and his littermate, Oska III vom Bockenhagen and Olaf III vom Bockenhagen—both legendary versatile hunting dogs with exceptional nose, track, search, and point....the likes of which most will never witness in their entire lifetime.
In the crate, kennel, and house, she is a wonderful citizen. She is calm, quiet, mentally sound, and genuinely happy. She has no interest in fighting or biting other dogs and is a trusted member of the family. That combination of intense hunting talent and a stable, pleasant temperament is exactly what we hope to preserve in a breeding program, Lord willing.
She is a physically hearty and mentally tough dog and is well protected by a dense, hard, flat laying, and maintenance free coat. She hunts hard and encounters hazards frequently in the cover such as barbed wire, old farm implements, rocks, dead woody debris etc and she has yet to suffer injury; no impalements, no lacerations, no abrasions. She has a very athletic build with sufficient bone. When she is in thin and shorter cover and running big, she sometime appears to be levitating above the ground because her gate is smooth and efficient; she has great reach in the front end and extension in the rear end. Because of her fluid body mechanics, I can rely on her to produce on the last day of a 5 day destination hunt, just like the first day.
